A Dutch Heritage Village

Asphalt paving in Little Chute reflects a village that grew in a big hurry after 1970. Dutch Catholic immigrants from North Brabant began settling here in 1848, and the village incorporated on March 8, 1899. It stayed modest for decades, with 5,522 residents in 1970, then jumped to 7,907 by 1980 and 10,476 by 2000, reaching 11,619 in 2020. Little Chute is now the largest village in Outagamie County.

Driveways from the boom

The neighborhoods built in the 1970s and 80s are now forty to fifty years old. Driveways from that era commonly show worn bases, settled aprons and edges breaking into lawns. Where the base has failed, replacement is the right call; where it is still firm, an overlay or a round of patching, crack filling and sealcoating can extend its life.

Newer homes

The growth after 2010 added newer neighborhoods. Driveways there are in the early maintenance years, where crack filling in the fall and a sealcoat every few years do the most good.

Along the Fox

Little Chute sits along the Fox River just east of Appleton, with the Little Chute Locks in Doyle Park. Homes near the river and the low areas around it can stay wetter in spring, and those lots need careful drainage planning.

The windmill and visitors

The full-scale working Dutch windmill, with its visitor center opened in 2013, draws tourists to the village center. Lots at churches, businesses and attractions there need regular crack filling, sealing and striping. St. John Nepomucene is one of the village's best-known landmarks.

Highways

WIS 441, the Tri-County Expressway, runs along the west side of the village and I-41 along the north. Business entrances on state routes may need state approval.

Scheduling and seasons

We pave from late spring through fall, once frost is out and the base is dry. Sealcoating fits warm, dry summer days; crack filling is best in the fall. During festival and tourist seasons in the village center, we schedule commercial work around events.

Edges and boulevards

Many Little Chute driveways cross a grass boulevard before the street, and that is where edges fail first. Mowers, snowblowers and plows chip them, and water soaks the soil beside them. When we replace a driveway, we extend the stone base past the asphalt edge and backfill with soil so the edge is supported.

Overlays done right

When an overlay makes sense, we mill at the garage and apron so the new layer meets them flush, rather than leaving a lip. Failed areas are cut out and rebuilt first so they do not crack through.

Comparing quotes

Our written quotes break out each item so you can compare bids.

Village center and St. John Nepomucene

The streets around St. John Nepomucene and the windmill include older homes from the village's Dutch heritage era, many with narrow drives that need careful replacement.

Riverside low spots

Near Doyle Park and the locks, lots can sit low. Drainage and base depth deserve extra attention there.

Little Chute Questions

Our 1978 driveway is breaking up. Overlay or replace?

At that age the base has often worn out. We check first; if it is firm, an overlay can work, otherwise replacement is the better value.

When should a newer driveway be sealed?

After 3 to 6 months of curing, then every few years when the surface fades.

Do you work on church and business lots in the village center?

Yes, including patching, sealing and striping.

How do I prevent spring potholes?

Fill cracks in the fall and make sure water drains off the driveway.

Is an overlay much cheaper than replacing?

HomeGuide figures an overlay runs about 20 to 30 percent cheaper than a full tear-out, as long as the base underneath is solid.

Can you pave lots for businesses near the windmill?

Yes. We phase patching, sealing and striping around visitor traffic and village events.
