From Town to Village
Asphalt paving in Fox Crossing covers neighborhoods that existed long before the village did. Fox Crossing incorporated on April 20, 2016 from the former Town of Menasha, and the remaining town lands were annexed that September, ending the town. The population was 18,498 in 2010 and 18,974 in 2020. Because the village is new but the homes are not, driveways here range from postwar originals to recent construction.
Lakes and the Fox
Fox Crossing sits at the north end of Lake Winnebago, and the Fox River flows through it, widening into Little Lake Butte des Morts. Lots along the water are often low and sit on the clay-rich lake sediment typical of Winnebago County. Those driveways need a deep stone base and slope that moves water off the pavement quickly.
Highways and traffic
I-41 runs north to south through the village, U.S. 10 crosses it as the Tri-County Expressway, and WIS 114 and WIS 47 carry local traffic toward Harrison and Appleton. Appleton International Airport lies just next door in Greenville. Businesses along those corridors need lots that hold up to trucks and daily plowing.
Older town neighborhoods
Neighborhoods built when this was the Town of Menasha often have wider lots, attached garages and driveways first paved in the 1960s through the 1980s. Many are due for replacement or a well-prepared overlay. Some still have gravel parking pads or shoulders that owners want paved.
Gravel conversions
On larger lots, gravel drives or gravel sections are still common. Converting them means testing the existing stone, adding or replacing base as needed and planning drainage before paving.
Recreation and trails
The Friendship State Trail runs through the village, and the Tri-County Arena draws crowds. Lots at churches, schools and venues need crack filling, sealing and restriping on a regular cycle.
Driveway age guide
- Built in the 1960s and 70s: often a worn base and settled apron, so replacement is usually the long-term fix
- Built in the 1980s and 90s: cracks and fading, where patching, crack filling and an overlay can work if the base is firm
- Built after 2000: early maintenance years, where fall crack filling and a sealcoat every few years do the most good
Plows and aprons
Fox Crossing's wider streets leave heavy plow windrows at the end of each driveway, and the apron takes the most abuse from shovels and blades. An apron built on firm, compacted stone with backed edges survives plow season far better. When we replace a driveway we pay particular attention to that first few feet.
Scheduling
We pave from late spring through fall, seal in dry summer weather and fill cracks in the fall. Booking early in the season gets the most flexible dates.
Former town roads
Some Fox Crossing neighborhoods were laid out when this was still a rural town, with ditches instead of curbs along the street. Driveways there cross the ditch on a culvert, and the culvert end is a common failure point: water undercuts the asphalt, and the edge breaks off. When we replace these driveways, we check the culvert, rebuild the shoulder around it and taper the asphalt so it is supported. If the culvert itself is crushed or too short, we flag it so it can be replaced before paving.

Fox Crossing Questions
Who handles driveway approach rules in Fox Crossing now?
Since 2016 the Village of Fox Crossing has replaced the former town government. Approaches onto county or state roads may follow those agencies' rules. We check which applies before planning approach work.
Can you pave the gravel shoulders beside my driveway?
Yes. We test the stone, rebuild the base where needed and pave so the new section ties in smoothly.
My lot is near Little Lake Butte des Morts. Any concerns?
Lakeside lots are often wetter. A deeper base and good drainage are the main defenses.
Do you work on business lots along US 10 and I-41?
Yes, including paving, patching, sealing and striping.
What does a sealcoat cost for a typical Fox Crossing driveway?
National guides put two-car driveways at roughly $400 to $1,200 depending on size. Crack filling and patching are priced separately.
